Versace Spring 2018 RTW Analysis.
Task At Hand
Tasked with analyzing a past runway show, I chose the Versace Spring 2018 RTW collection due to its historical significance as it was dedicated to Gianni’s past collections. The collection selected several garments from the archives of each of Gianni’s collections from the years 1991-1995 and modernized them for the 2018 market. This heartfelt tribute to the late Gianni Versace from Donatella features pieces from past collections “Miss S&M”,“Tresors De La Mer”, “La Belle Figura” and more.

Process
To fully analyze The Versace 2018 RTW Collection, I assessed The 2018 collection as well as the featured past ‘91-’95. Focusing on Donatella’s updated aspects to the archived garments through the added or subtracted design details/elements. For example, in the figure to the left, Donatella modernized this bubble skirt dress from the 1992 collection “Tresors De La Mer” translating to “Treasures Of The Sea”. Accomplished by incorporating trending muted pastels in the print as opposed to the previous more saturated color way. The silhouette remained voluminous but shifted to A-Line. The piece diversified into a separate top and bottom to reflect the needs and trends within the market at the time. The prior popular straight across neckline modernized into a semi-sweetheart neckline featured on a cropped bustier style with thin straps with lace underneath, giving the illusion of a thicker look while maintaining the fresh youthful tone.

Impact
This collection analysis helped improve my skills on identifying silhouettes, design elements & details, as well on how to properly categorize garments based on their characteristics. I also gained insight on how runway themes work and how to identify those themes based off of the featured looks. Overall, this analysis helped expand my garment knowledge.
