
Morgue File: A Look Into 1960’s-1980’s

Task At Hand
After researching the history of fashion trends starting at the Victorian Era - 1980’s, I was promoted to combine my knowledge on the eras to display them in a an informative yet visually compelling document termed “Morgue File”. This section of the document focused on the 1960’s - 1980’s covering Mod Style to Power Dressing. I dove heavily into the zeitgeists of each era studying not only the state of the time but the political influence, pop-culture, and key celebrity’s that captured the spirt of the times. The world’s events directly impact every aspect of trends that came and went every decade making them crucial to recognize. You have to look back in order to look forward with fashion trends, fads, and popularized styles.

Process
While building the “Morgue File” I focused on visually transport into the zeitgeist of each decade. The color scheme of the file comprises burnt oranges and earth tones, representing the energy of the mid 20th century. I started each decade off with a summary of the most defining moments of each decade including the feminist “Flower Power” movement of the 1960’s, Disco popularity in the 1970’s, and trend influences from Madonna, Flash Dance, and the rise of Women Executives during the 1980’s. to bring the viewer into what was happening at the time of each trend. For each decade I included a detailed summary on the main trends from the 1960’s-1980’s such as shift dresses, bell bottoms, and acid washed denim & styles including leisure suits and power suits.

Impact
Researching each decade from the Victorian Era through present day was eye-opening research that showed me how trends have evolved throughout history and where modern styles had been derived from. Having this knowledge has helped me to be able to identify the constructional elements of every garment but also where the style derivative.
