Menswear F/W 23 Forecast

Task At Hand
Prompted to research the current zeitgeist to determine how consumers are feeling in the present in order to predict their future consumption habits, the research during the fall of 2021 led to findings heavily focused on Covid-19, Climate Change, and an overall increase in crime rates including the prevalence of police brutality and riots. These findings led tothe developing of the forecasted menswear theme of “Dystopia” for the upcoming Fall/Winter 2023 Season. “Dystopia” encapsulates dressing for utility and expanding on personal style. Featuring colors, patterns, and prints that reflect the changing climate conditions and revolution. In charge of the creative components for this project, I curated imagery focused on the raw elements of natural disasters and the angst prevalent in society.

Process
Focusing on developing the visionary elements of "Dystopia”, The mood board captures the anxiety surrounding society, featuring events that related to the zeitgeist. The color color palette derives from the occurring climate crisis, sourcing colors from natural disasters, featuring saturated reds and muted greens. The fabrics, prints, and patterns were pulled from market research in upcoming trending materials such as Goretex and Duck Camouflage. Details and Trims focused on the tactical elements present in recent collections. The market research assisted in revealing the showcased runway styles, street styles, as well as key items chosen to be featured which represent utility and personal style exploration.

Impact
Forecasting has taught me to look at the world through a different lens. I love seeing how world news bleeds into each industry and how consumerism is directly effected. This project as well as my forecasting internship with Fashion Snoops, has revealed to me my interest in spotting emerging trends, colors, and analyzing the zeitgeist to predict consumer behavior.
