Menswear Trend Forecasting Internship
During fall 2021, I had the pleasure of virtually interning at global trend forecasting agency, Fashion Snoops, headquartered in New York City. I interned in the menswear department under Senior Men’s Strategist, Jason Kress where I gained insight on trend research and overall garment knowledge/proper vocabulary. One of my main day-to-day tasks included writing “Hot Now” articles on the latest fashion brand collaborations, capsule collections, store pop-ups, flagship stores, as well any new fashion innovations in the menswear sector. I utilized online sources including DazedDigital, Fucking Young!, Mr.Magazine, Hero, Aesthetica Magazine, BOOOOOMMM, HighSnobiety, and Huck Magazine to conduct my daily research scanning the market. In addition to writing articles, I also worked on sourcing color inspiration from art, photography, interior design, as well as finding proper imagery to convey the moods associated with trending color shifts. I contributed to Jason’s forecasting themes by finding related articles and conducting write-ups to further explore the theme, which I found highly fascinating. My Runway knowledge heavily expanded as I was tasked with looking at every emerging runway show and sort each look into proper categories based on their color, design details and trims, prints/patterns, and theme to be better assessed. Lastly, I would be given lists of trending garments and was tasked with scanning the retail market and streetwear to source proper imagery of the pieces, which gave me a new appreciation for street style. I learned an extensive amount of fashion insight during my internship at Fashion Snoops including how to spot emerging color and garment trends, how to develop forecasted themes, how to properly copy-write articles on trending topics, and how to accurately categorize garments based on their design details. I find menswear particularly intriguing due to the nature of how fluid It has become/becoming and the opportunities that sit within that. This internship revealed my love for fashion research and trend prediction which is where I hope to develop my career.
